The Colt Guarantee
We stand behind how we do the work for five years.
5-Year Workmanship Guarantee
We stand behind how we do the work for five years. If something fails because of our installation or repair, we come back and correct it — no labor charge.
Covers Colt’s workmanship. Parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty. Excludes pre-existing conditions, customer-supplied fixtures, and freeze or misuse damage.
What does that mean in practice?
If a repair or installation we performed fails because of how we did the work, call us. We’ll come back and correct it without charging for labor, for five years.
How do I make a claim?
Call us at (617) 446-3690, Monday through Friday from 8am to 8pm, or email hello@colthomeservices.com, within 30 days of discovering the problem. Section 4 below has the details.
What are the full terms?
Colt Home Services 5-Year Limited Workmanship Guarantee
1. What is covered. For five (5) years from the date the Work is completed, Colt Home Services (“Colt”) guarantees that the Work was performed in a good and workmanlike manner. “Work” means the labor Colt performed under your signed proposal or invoice. If a failure is caused directly by an error in Colt’s installation or repair, Colt will return and correct it at no charge for labor, and will replace at no charge any materials needed to correct our error.
2. What is not covered. This guarantee covers our workmanship only. It does not cover:
- Failure of a part, fixture, appliance, or piece of equipment itself (for example, a defective valve, cartridge, water heater tank, or pump), even if Colt supplied or installed it. Parts and equipment are covered by their manufacturer’s warranty, described in Section 3.
- Existing pipes, fittings, fixtures, venting, drains, or systems that Colt did not install or replace, including conditions that existed before the Work.
- Damage from freezing, flooding, fire, lightning, power surges, earthquakes, settling, or other events outside Colt’s control.
- Damage from misuse, neglect, accidents, lack of routine maintenance, or failure to follow manufacturer care instructions.
- Clogs and blockages caused by use (for example, grease, wipes, roots, or foreign objects).
- Wear from water quality, including hard water, sediment, scale, corrosion, or high water pressure, unless correcting that condition was part of the Work.
- Work that has been altered, repaired, moved, or disturbed by anyone other than Colt.
- Parts or materials supplied by you or a third party.
- Items or recommendations you declined, as noted on your proposal or invoice.
- Cosmetic items such as finish wear, discoloration, or minor surface marks.
3. Manufacturer and other warranties come first. Many parts and fixtures carry a manufacturer’s warranty, and some include labor. Where another warranty (manufacturer, extended, home warranty, or other) covers a failure, that warranty applies first, and you agree to make your claim under it. Colt will help you file manufacturer claims for parts we supplied. This guarantee then covers only the portion of a workmanship failure that the other warranty does not. Colt’s labor to remove and replace a failed part that is not a workmanship failure is billed at our standard rates.
4. How to make a claim. Contact Colt promptly, and within 30 days of discovering a problem, by phone or email. Please allow Colt reasonable access to inspect the Work. Colt decides how to correct a covered failure, which may be repair, adjustment, or replacement of the Work. If our inspection finds the problem is not caused by our workmanship, our standard service charge for the visit applies, and we will tell you before any further work is done.
5. Emergencies and other contractors. In an emergency, take reasonable steps to limit damage, such as shutting off the water, and call Colt right away. Repairs to the Work by another contractor are not covered unless Colt approves them in writing first, except emergency steps needed to stop active damage.
6. Limits. Colt’s obligation under this guarantee is to correct the covered workmanship failure as described above. To the extent permitted by law, this guarantee does not cover incidental or consequential damages, such as damage to other property, lost use, or lodging costs. Some situations do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
7. Who is covered. This guarantee applies to the customer named on the proposal or invoice, at the property where the Work was performed. It is not transferable.
8. Your rights under Massachusetts law. This guarantee is in addition to, and does not reduce, any rights you have under Massachusetts law, including the implied obligation that work be performed in a workmanlike manner and any implied warranties on goods sold to you. Nothing here limits those rights.
