Where does Lincoln’s water come from?
Lincoln runs its own small water system. Its 2024 Consumer Confidence Report lists two sources: Flint’s Pond (also called Sandy Pond), a surface water source treated at the town’s micro-filtration plant, and the Tower Road Well, a groundwater source now used daily as a supplement. The town owns or controls most of the watershed around Flint’s Pond, and the report names septic systems as one of the biggest threats to the supply. Lincoln is not an MWRA water or sewer customer, per the MWRA’s customer list.
What does that mean for your plumbing?
Lincoln’s water doesn’t fit the simple MWRA-or-wells split, so it’s a “test first” town on our town-by-town water list. If you’re on a private well, the advice is different again: no one is treating or testing that water for you, and a well usually needs a sequence of treatment stages rather than one appliance.
What about septic?
The town’s own report flags septic systems as a risk to its water supply, which is a good reason to keep a septic system healthy: watch what goes down the drain, fix running toilets and leaks that overload it, and have it pumped on schedule. We handle the plumbing inside the house; septic design and repair is a job for a septic contractor.

Where does Lincoln's water come from?
From Flint's Pond, the town's main supply, treated at a micro-filtration plant, and the Tower Road Well, a groundwater source used daily as a supplement. The town owns or controls most of the land around Flint's Pond to protect it.
Do I need a water softener in Lincoln?
Test first. Lincoln's supply blends pond water with well water, and properties on private wells are a different case again. A water test tells you what you actually have.
