Where does Wellesley’s water come from?
Wellesley is a partial MWRA water customer. Its Consumer Confidence Report describes ten town wells — four near Morses Pond and six along Rosemary Brook — plus water bought from the MWRA, which draws from the Quabbin and Wachusett reservoirs. Well water is treated at the town’s plants for corrosion control and iron and manganese removal, and the town notes that blending local and MWRA water moderates the differences between them.
What does that mean for your plumbing?
Because the blend varies, Wellesley is a “test first” town on our town-by-town water list. Some homes see scale and spotting; others don’t. A water test settles it before you spend money on a softener or filter.
Wellesley is an MWRA sewer community, per the MWRA’s customer list, so drain problems come down to the house’s pipes and its lateral to the street.

Where does Wellesley's water come from?
From ten town wells — four near Morses Pond and six along Rosemary Brook — plus water purchased from the MWRA. The town treats its well water for iron and manganese and blends it with MWRA water, and the share from each source changes from year to year.
Do I need a water softener in Wellesley?
Test first. Wellesley blends well water with MWRA water, so hardness depends on the mix. A water test shows what's coming out of your tap before you buy anything.
