Home Energy Audit Services in Massachusetts

A no-cost Mass Save home energy assessment shows where your home loses energy and which upgrades and rebates you qualify for.

What is a home energy audit?

A home energy audit — in Massachusetts, a Mass Save home energy assessment — is a visit from an energy specialist who evaluates how your home uses and loses energy. It’s the first step to Mass Save rebates and incentives, and for eligible homeowners it costs nothing.

What happens during the assessment?

A specialist reviews:

  • Insulation levels in the attic, walls and basement
  • Air leakage around the building envelope
  • Heating and cooling systems
  • Appliance and lighting efficiency

Afterward you receive a written report that lists recommended upgrades and the rebates available for each. Some no-cost energy-saving products, such as efficient showerheads and faucet aerators, may be installed during the visit when you’re eligible.

What upgrades can follow?

Depending on what the assessment finds, common next steps are insulation, air sealing, and efficient heating equipment. Larger projects may qualify for the Mass Save HEAT Loan. The turnkey program explains how one contractor can coordinate the whole process.

Why book your assessment with Colt?

Colt Home Services started in 2022 as a Mass Save Home Performance Contractor, and home energy work is still a core part of what we do. We’re owner-operated and based on Felton Street in Waltham. Because we’re also licensed plumbers, an assessment that turns up a failing water heater or boiler doesn’t have to end with a referral.

Renting or a landlord? See our guides for renters and landlords.

Need a plumber too?

A failing water heater or boiler is often both a plumbing job and a Mass Save conversation. See water heater installation and boiler repair.
