When is it time to replace a water heater?
Replace it when the tank itself is failing. Water around the base, rusty hot water, rumbling or popping from sediment, and a unit more than about ten years old are the usual signs. A leaking tank doesn’t get better — plan the replacement before the shell fails.
Call us if you notice:
- Water that isn’t getting hot enough, or is too hot
- Banging or popping noises
- Rust-colored or cloudy hot water
- Leaks around the base of the unit
- A system that’s 10+ years old
- Rising energy or water bills
What does a water heater installation include?
We assess your current system and how your household uses hot water, size the replacement properly, and install it to code — including venting, an expansion tank where required, the permit and the inspection. We haul the old unit away and clean up.
We work with brands including Rheem, Bradford White, Navien and Rinnai.
What moves the price of a replacement?
| What moves the price | Why |

| Venting condition | Code compliance |

| Access to the unit | Basement vs. crawlspace |
| Permit and inspection | Required in Massachusetts |
Mass Save rebates may apply to some efficient units, such as heat pump water heaters. We’re a Mass Save Home Performance Contractor, so we’ll tell you if yours qualifies.

How long does a water heater replacement take?
A straightforward tank-for-tank swap is usually a few hours. Switching fuel type, moving the unit, or correcting venting that isn't to code takes longer — we'll tell you which one you're looking at when we quote it.
Do you pull the permit?
Yes. Water heater replacement requires a permit and inspection in Massachusetts, and we handle it.
Should I switch to tankless?
Sometimes. Tankless makes sense for households that run out of hot water, and less sense if your gas line or venting would need major work to support it. We'll give you both numbers rather than steering you.
How much does a new water heater cost?
Nobody can quote a water heater accurately over the phone. The estimate is free. A licensed plumber checks the installation, sizes the replacement and puts a price in writing before anything happens.
